New Music: Jack Savoretti's Singing to Strangers

Jack Savoretti is a British singer-songwriter and I’ve heard a lot of good things about his live performance. Like so many I haven’t had the chance to see him live although he’s been around for ages. Lucky me he just released his 6th studio record called “Singing to Strangers” which makes him go on tour through Europe. On May 6th he is in Zurich at Volkshaus thanks to Allblues.

Jack Savoretti’s song “Home” is one of his most famous – at least in my eyes. Such a beautiful ballade and with his raspy voice he is transporting just the right kind of sadness. But that was way back in 2014. Fast forward 5 years and we’ve got “Singing to Strangers” to listen to. And I mean how true is that. Next Monday he will definitely singing to strangers… well at least I’ll be a stranger since it’s gonna be my first time listening to him. However my friends from Loads of Music are no strangers at all as you can see by the beautiful headline picture.

New Music: Peter Doherty & the Puta Madres

Pete(r) Doherty has been around for ages – luckily, you might say. He’s been known to live the rock’n’roll lifestyle. Ex-girlfriend Kate Moss could attest to that. He’s been buddies with Amy Winehouse as well who died 8 years ago. Now let’s talk about his music: He was part of the legendary Libertines and the lead singer of the Babyshambles.

Peter Doherty & the Puta Madres started out in 2016. After some band changes and a few festival gigs the band is releasing their first self-titled record on April, 26th. Almost a month later the multi-national band are playing X-tra in Zurich. I’m very excited to see Pete Doherty live. First of all he’s super talented and manages to create visionary songs. Second of all I heard he’s a nice chap. So I want to see and hear for myself what is true and what is not.

Let’s listen to the first single called “Who’s been having you over” off the new record:

It does sound a lot like Pete Doherty. I love the distinct guitar sounds. Makes you want to listen to more. The next single which was just released is “Paradise is under your nose” and is a bit slower than “Who’s been having you over”.

So if you are a fan of Indie Rock you should deffo mark your calendar and buy your ticket early because I think you are in for a treat. Songs from the Libertines, Babyshambles and his new project the Puta Madres are promising to be a great night for guitar and indie rock lovers.
Get your ticket here: justbecause.ch

Peter Doherty & the Puta Madres are a must see for Indie Rock / guitar lovers. Make sure listen to the debut record in two weeks and make your way down to X-tra on May, 23rd. 🙂

JPson's breezy Hope for Change

Kekoaskorner met JP a few months ago as the tour manager of Sons of the East. Who knew tour managers could be so talented?
The South African released his newest single “Hope for Change” a few weeks ago. It’s a very cool light song which will make you feel sea breeze in your hair. I love the drums in the back ground. It adds to that certain lightness of this folky song. I can imagine JPson sitting on the beach with his friends playing this kind of music. I love when music can transport images and JPson’s music does this pretty well. But have a listen yourself: “Hope for Change“.
So what did you see when you listened to the song? Comment below! 🙂 Of course JPson got more music. They’re all very folky and have this certain beachy light feeling. I also found out that he’s done quite a lovely music video to “Open Up”. But be your own judge and have a look:

Telling you about music and listening/watching music is one thing but the best way to experience music is live. Lucky us JPson is on tour in Switzerland next year! Here are the dates:
08.02.2019 Hard Rock Hotel | Davos – CH
09.02.2019 Newgoggeien | Flumserburg – CH
13.02.2019 Kosmos | Zurich- CH
14.02.2019 Grand Café  | Zug – CH
15.02.2019 Madeleine | Luzern – CH
16.02.2019 Nangijala | Disentis – CH
Will I be seeing you on one of those dates?
Let me know what you think of JPson’s Hope for Change in the below comment section:

Alina Amuri's Chasing Traces

Alina Amuri is a Swiss singer with Congolese roots who’s been known for her soulful voice. She finally released her 2nd album “Chasing Traces last week and I just had a listen to it.
“Won’t Cope with it” sounds like the perfect song for a rainy night in September. It starts very chilled and then the beat drops. I really really love the rhythm! And obviously the beautiful voice of Alina Amuri makes it to a perfect track to be No. 1 on the album. The very international sound continues with “Water” and “Pioneers”. The sound kinda reminds me of Erykah Badu who I adore. After three tracks there’s a short Interlude called “A long Time”. It kinda has a gospel sound and has a rich sound. What a contrast the next song is. “Giving up on you” has a rock feel and the electric guitar is very prominent.

Arcade Fire's Everything Now !

Arcade Fire are coming back to Switzerland. This fact might come as a surprise to us. For years they’ve been avoiding our country because we have the worst fans at gigs. And you know I must admit that the Swiss audience is very hard to crack. However if you work hard and show your appreciation and you if you are really that talented you will find that the Swiss audience can be one of the most loyal audience – Just ask Naturally 7 or Anastacia!

New Music: MANIA by Fall Out Boy

I love Fall Out Boy but I have never managed to see them live! It is quite a shame but I am hoping that they will come to a festival in Switzerland or add a Swiss date to their MANIA tour. But first things first let me introduce you to their newest record MANIA.

Fall Out Boy - Mania
wikipedia.com

MANIA is their 7th record and was released on January 19th. The album is 10 songs strong including the signature voice of Patrick Stump. I honestly love his voice. It has that certain something that you cannot train you just have it or you don’t. Patrick Stump definitely has it. For me Pete Wentz also plays a main part in Fall Out Boy. He not only promoted the band on One Tree Hill and had a liaison with Peyton played by Hillary Burton but his looks and his talent make him unique. Fall Out Boy to me represent the new generation of Rockstars 🙂 But of course without Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley there wouldn’t be a band and no Fall Out Boy.
Of course I had a first listen to the new record MANIA and I have already three favourites. The first one that got me dancing was “Hold Me Tight or Don’t”. It kinda reminds me of The Script’s “Rain” which is a good thing. While writing this I am still dancing 🙂 “Young and Menace” is super intense and has great vibes. The stops in the rhythm are brilliant and are quite popular these days. Fall Out Boy end MANIA with an anthem! “Bishops Knife Trick” has that certain feeling that it needs a stadium or a big venue to fully unfold its potential. But I immediately fell in love with it.
Listening to MANIA makes me realize how much I liked Fall Out Boy and with this review I’d like to make you want to listen to this band too. They have been around for years and deserve all the credit. So first YouTube video I share is my current favourite of the record “Hold Me Tight or Don’t”:

Isn’t this video amazing???!! The purple Skeleton is just the best costume. This song and the video are full of energy and good vibes. I hope you like it as much as I do. But of course I want to show you some more tunes! Fall Out Boy released a video for “Young and Menace” as well and here it is:

I love the Britney Spears reference. But WOW the video is super weird but again also very purple which matches the theme of the record. I would have loved to show you a video for “Bishop Knife Trick” but unfortunately I couldn’t find a good one. But as I said it’s better to listen to the song in a big venue anyway to really get that anthem feeling. To get the full picture here’s the full song list of Fall Out Boy’s 7th record MANIA:

  1. Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea
  2. The Last of the Real Ones
  3. Hold Me Tight or Don’t
  4. Wilson (Expensive Mistakes)
  5. Church
  6. Heaven’s Gate
  7. Champion
  8. Sunshine Riptide
  9. Young and Menace
  10. Bishops Knife Trick

All of my three favourites are on Kekoas Korner’s Spotify Playlist which you can find by clicking here. I will also notify you if Fall Out Boy decides to come to Switzerland on my social media channels Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. At the moment they are touring through Europe, the US and Asia. However there is a big break between the European and the American tour so I am hoping for a few festival announcements 🙂
But most importantly now is your opinion! How did you like MANIA? Leave a reply below.

New Music: Relaxer by Alt-J

Alt-J is a current 3 piece British band from Leeds. Alt-J fans are enjoying their unique indie electronic pop since 2007. Last year they released their 3rd album Relaxer and lucky us Just Because is bringing them to Club Hallenstadion on Sunday, 21st February 2018. There are still tickets available on Ticketcorner: Just click here.
Alt-J reminds me of an artist called Jean-Michel Jarre who I’ve seen a few years ago. Their sound seems to go in this direction. From instrumental tunes to main stream songs over to very mellow songs. It is quite interesting and I am looking forward to see how their Live show is. Will they be working with lights and laser? Will it be very DJ-like? I’ve got lots of questions and the answers will follow next Monday right here on Kekoas Korner.
Enough talking let’s listen to some music! The lead singer of the record is a feature with Ellie Rowsell of Wolf Alice and is called “3WW”:

Special right?! Special is always good. I love how the song starts really quiet and slow and it builds and it breaks again. And another special song of the new album with a beat that I like is called “In Cold Blood” and is their 2nd single of the album Relaxer.

And finally I want to show you an old song “Matilda” from their debut album An Awesome Wave. Over the years the band experienced some changes but also great success. Alt-J played various festivals and won the British Mercury Prize in 2012. Another fact is that Alt-J’s band name looks actually like this ∆. But I guess no-one would be able to pronounce the name. To me this is another interesting fact about the band. And you guessed right I have another fun fact about Alt-J. The cover of Relaxer was especially made for them by a Japanese artist Osamu Sato who created the Playstation Game LSD.

Track list:

  1. 3WW
  2. In Cold Blood
  3. House of the Rising Sun
  4. Hit Me Like That Snare
  5. Deadcrush
  6. Adeline
  7. Last Year
  8. Pleader

Sounds interesting? So go get your tix for Sunday and say hi to me at the gig 🙂 If you can’t go keep following Kekoas Korner on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to keep a close eye on the concert.

New Music: Tearing at the seams by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats

Kekoas Korner is a huge fan of Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. After hearing “S.O.B” their first single on the radio I knew I had to get their self-titled debut record which turned me into an even bigger fan. Being lucky again I won two tickets to their show at Kaufleuten in 2016.
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats
Kekoas Korner proudly announced that Nathaniel Ratliff & The Night Sweats are back! Their lead single “You Worry Me” is already out and the album Tearing at the seams will follow on March, 9th. But the best news is that they are coming to town on March, 22! Tickets are still available here. Have a listen to their first single “You Worry Me”:

Sounds great, doesn’t it? I just love their sound. It reminds of a nice summer day driving with open windows just enjoying the sun. Their debut record is one of 5 records I always keep in my car. So for me buying the new record is a done deal. If you feel the same you can pre-order the record by clicking here.
To create this record Nathaniel Rateliff felt like the Night Sweats need to be part of it since he did the first album by himself. The initial writing session were based in Rodeo, New Mexico were they had to figure out how to write a record as a band. This makes me wonder how the sound of this 2nd album is different to the first. Here’s the song list:

  1. Shoe Boot
  2. Be There
  3. A Little Honey
  4. Say It Louder
  5. Hey Mama
  6. Babe I Know
  7. Intro
  8. Coolin’ Out
  9. Baby I Lost My Way, (But I’m Going Home)
  10. You Worry Me
  11. Still Out There Running
  12. Tearing at the Seams

Which immediately strikes my eye is that the Intro song is No. 7 and not No. 1 on the record. I guess we gotta wait and see what this is all about.
Let me leave you with my favourite song by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats:

New Music: Shania Twain is back NOW

Everyone knows Shania Twain. She’s the Taylor Swift of her time. Shania started off in Country Music but has since then moved to Pop/Rock tunes which probably helped to become one of the best-selling music artists of all time. It’s been quiet around Shania Twain for a few good years and her last album dates back to 2002. So 2017 is a good year for all the Twain fans out there because finally she found her voice again and brought out “Now“.
I don’t have to introduce her so let’s get right on to her new album “NOW”. The first single is called “Life’s About To Get Good”. I love the song and its message so please listen to the lyrics. For those of you who don’t know Shania lost her voice a few years back and with specialists help she luckily got it back which you can hear on “NOW”. So this single is exactly about her journey and that’s why it’s perfect as a first release. Listen for yourself.

She has such a special voice which you immediately connect to. I also thing it was made to sing country! That little twist she got gives every song that special touch. On her 16 song album she has a lovely mix of up-tempo and slow songs. You can also hear the country music influence in a few songs. I will point out a few of my highlights of the record.
“Roll Me On the River” is a powerful intense song. In the back ground you can hear the choir. At the moment I love this kinda music. It reminds me a bit of “Chainsmoking” by Jacob Banks. Since this is my favourite on the record I will show you the YouTube video and you can listen to this amazing track yourself.

“Swinging with my Eyes closed” and “You Can’t Buy Love” is a fun song and makes you dance and just enjoy the moment. If you feel down listen to this positive song and let me show you the perfect lyrics from “You Can’t Buy Love”:

When life gives you lemons
They pour down from the heavens
This is what you’ve got to do
Make some lemonade
Drink it in the shade
Don’t let a bad day get to you

Great and so true, isn’t?! Now to the more somber songs. “Soldier” is just beautiful. Her voice and the lyrics and the piano. Just perfect. “Home Now” fits perfectly into the country genre and has a very catchy chorus. I’d love to listen to “Light of my Life” in an acoustic version just with her and guitarist on a round stage in the middle of a huge arena. I think this could be a special moment.
Lastly I just want to show you guys my favourite old song of hers “Ka-Ching!”. I was 10 when it was released and I was obsessed with it. I haven’t listened to it in year which happens with songs you don’t hear a lot on the radio but it still catches me and I know why my 10 year old me liked it. It was super modern back then and even now you can listen to it and you wouldn’t know when it got out.

Let me mentioned another few oldies: “That Don’t Impress Me Much” (1998), “Man! I feel like Woman!” (1999) and lastly a beautiful ballade “Forever and for Always” (2003).
Flash forward: In 2018 we are in for a treat because she is going on a huge American tour as well as a few European dates. Check out her website for exact dates. Since she I’ve known her music almost all my life I’d love to see her live sometime. If you do be proud and make sure to appreciate the effort she put in to get there.
I’d love to know your favourite song by Shania Twain! Let me know in the comments below.

New Music: Collective Order Vol. 2

I’ve never posted anything about this music style: Jazz. So this is something very special to me. Since I want to support any music I’m proud to introduce to you Collective Order. A few weeks ago I watched an amazing performance by Justin Nozuka and his four piece band. The drummer Jon turned out to be part of this amazing Jazz project.
The name “Collective Order” is perfect because it really is a collective order of songs and brilliant musicians just jamming out. On their 2nd album we can enjoy 12 unique songs. Let me start of by saying that I’m a newbie at Jazz. I know Jamie Cullum and Naturally 7 but that’s about it. So I started listening to the album with a fresh view and an open mind.
I quickly started to enjoy it! The first song “Laniakea” is a perfect start to the record. It is super lively and I immediately got a good feeling about the album and about me reviewing a jazz album. “Space Jam” follows and it starts slow but then the drums set in and it turns out to be a very pleasant song. For the 2rd song they got the sax out! 🙂 I love this instrument so this song is brilliant. By then I was starting to wonder if there were any lyrics in a song so in song 4 I got an answer: There was!
So Jazz is not only “Shubidoo woop” we got proper lyrics and an amazing singer on this record. We actually have it all! Drums, Sax, piano, trumpets and many many more. Song 5 is super special first it drops and then it goes completely wild. I gotta say I’ve never listened so carefully to each instrument on an album. Then I started to dance with number 6. “Open Wide” has a brazilian touch I think. You know the movie Eat Pray Love? That song Javier Bardem listens to when he nearly ran over Julia Roberts sounds very similar.
From summer to winter: “Outside my Window” reminds of Christmas 🙂 It’s perfect for a winter day when the snow is falling and you are snuggled up in your warm bed. Song 10 – WOW – so special! It’s starts like the song in the musical in Chicago. A woman and a man are whispering words at the beginning but then it turns out to be a beautiful song. I enjoyed the last song “Millionaires” since it reminded me a bit of Amy Winehouse. Just a beautiful Jazz song!
Guys, if you are never listened to a Jazz album before this is your chance! You can listen to it on Soundcloud. I definitely recommend this record to anyone. I want to thank Jon for introducing me to this amazing music and to this great genre! Have a look on all about Jazz to see a few photos of the musicians.
I would love to know your opinion of this amazing album. Please leave your comment below.
