New Music: Shania Twain is back NOW

Everyone knows Shania Twain. She’s the Taylor Swift of her time. Shania started off in Country Music but has since then moved to Pop/Rock tunes which probably helped to become one of the best-selling music artists of all time. It’s been quiet around Shania Twain for a few good years and her last album dates back to 2002. So 2017 is a good year for all the Twain fans out there because finally she found her voice again and brought out “Now“.
I don’t have to introduce her so let’s get right on to her new album “NOW”. The first single is called “Life’s About To Get Good”. I love the song and its message so please listen to the lyrics. For those of you who don’t know Shania lost her voice a few years back and with specialists help she luckily got it back which you can hear on “NOW”. So this single is exactly about her journey and that’s why it’s perfect as a first release. Listen for yourself.

She has such a special voice which you immediately connect to. I also thing it was made to sing country! That little twist she got gives every song that special touch. On her 16 song album she has a lovely mix of up-tempo and slow songs. You can also hear the country music influence in a few songs. I will point out a few of my highlights of the record.
“Roll Me On the River” is a powerful intense song. In the back ground you can hear the choir. At the moment I love this kinda music. It reminds me a bit of “Chainsmoking” by Jacob Banks. Since this is my favourite on the record I will show you the YouTube video and you can listen to this amazing track yourself.

“Swinging with my Eyes closed” and “You Can’t Buy Love” is a fun song and makes you dance and just enjoy the moment. If you feel down listen to this positive song and let me show you the perfect lyrics from “You Can’t Buy Love”:

When life gives you lemons
They pour down from the heavens
This is what you’ve got to do
Make some lemonade
Drink it in the shade
Don’t let a bad day get to you

Great and so true, isn’t?! Now to the more somber songs. “Soldier” is just beautiful. Her voice and the lyrics and the piano. Just perfect. “Home Now” fits perfectly into the country genre and has a very catchy chorus. I’d love to listen to “Light of my Life” in an acoustic version just with her and guitarist on a round stage in the middle of a huge arena. I think this could be a special moment.
Lastly I just want to show you guys my favourite old song of hers “Ka-Ching!”. I was 10 when it was released and I was obsessed with it. I haven’t listened to it in year which happens with songs you don’t hear a lot on the radio but it still catches me and I know why my 10 year old me liked it. It was super modern back then and even now you can listen to it and you wouldn’t know when it got out.

Let me mentioned another few oldies: “That Don’t Impress Me Much” (1998), “Man! I feel like Woman!” (1999) and lastly a beautiful ballade “Forever and for Always” (2003).
Flash forward: In 2018 we are in for a treat because she is going on a huge American tour as well as a few European dates. Check out her website for exact dates. Since she I’ve known her music almost all my life I’d love to see her live sometime. If you do be proud and make sure to appreciate the effort she put in to get there.
I’d love to know your favourite song by Shania Twain! Let me know in the comments below.

New Music: Collective Order Vol. 2

I’ve never posted anything about this music style: Jazz. So this is something very special to me. Since I want to support any music I’m proud to introduce to you Collective Order. A few weeks ago I watched an amazing performance by Justin Nozuka and his four piece band. The drummer Jon turned out to be part of this amazing Jazz project.
The name “Collective Order” is perfect because it really is a collective order of songs and brilliant musicians just jamming out. On their 2nd album we can enjoy 12 unique songs. Let me start of by saying that I’m a newbie at Jazz. I know Jamie Cullum and Naturally 7 but that’s about it. So I started listening to the album with a fresh view and an open mind.
I quickly started to enjoy it! The first song “Laniakea” is a perfect start to the record. It is super lively and I immediately got a good feeling about the album and about me reviewing a jazz album. “Space Jam” follows and it starts slow but then the drums set in and it turns out to be a very pleasant song. For the 2rd song they got the sax out! šŸ™‚ I love this instrument so this song is brilliant. By then I was starting to wonder if there were any lyrics in a song so in song 4 I got an answer: There was!
So Jazz is not only “Shubidoo woop” we got proper lyrics and an amazing singer on this record. We actually have it all! Drums, Sax, piano, trumpets and many many more. Song 5 is super special first it drops and then it goes completely wild. I gotta say I’ve never listened so carefully to each instrument on an album. Then I started to dance with number 6. “Open Wide” has a brazilian touch I think. You know the movie Eat Pray Love? That song Javier Bardem listens to when he nearly ran over Julia Roberts sounds very similar.
From summer to winter: “Outside my Window” reminds of Christmas šŸ™‚ It’s perfect for a winter day when the snow is falling and you are snuggled up in your warm bed. Song 10 – WOW – so special! It’s starts like the song in the musical in Chicago. A woman and a man are whispering words at the beginning but then it turns out to be a beautiful song. I enjoyed the last song “Millionaires” since it reminded me a bit of Amy Winehouse. Just a beautiful Jazz song!
Guys, if you are never listened to a Jazz album before this is your chance! You can listen to it on Soundcloud. I definitely recommend this record to anyone. I want to thank Jon for introducing me to this amazing music and to this great genre! Have a look on all about Jazz to see a few photos of the musicians.
I would love to know your opinion of this amazing album. Please leave your comment below.

The Queen of Sprock

Anastacia is one powerful woman. I was lucky enough to see her live a few times and each time she is absolutely incredible. Her shows are full of energy, love and laughter. She must love Switzerland since she comes here once a year and it is always a special show for example Live at Sunset, Bosshard Arena or at Kongresshaus on the day the Swiss national football team played.
2016-06-19 22.40.35
As you can see she’s been touring for a few years without new music but now finally we get to hear 13 new songs. On 15th Sept she released “Evolution” and her first single “Caught in the Middle”
I love the first song because it is super catchy and sounds so Anastacia-like. Well actually the whole album sounds so like her and though she the new songs will add new value to her live shows. “Redlight” and “Stamina” are two beautiful songs and if you know her history you can appreciate it even more. After going through tough times it is important to balance your energy and know on what to spend it. So those two songs teach you to slow down and build your stamina for the right things in life.

“Boxer” is a powerful song and I cannot wait to hear it live! It’ll be so energising and will give you strength to do whatever you want. The next song “My everything” is a beautiful love song and a wonderful ballade sang by Anastacia’s incredible voice. It will give you goose-bumps – promise! “Nobody Loves Me Better” and “Reckless” are two party easy up-tempo songs followed by another powerful very soulful ballade called “Not Coming Down”.

I’m better than before!
I am rising high
I’m stronger than I’ve been before

Anastacia sings in “Before”. Some powerful lyrics and very inspiring. I love when she sings super low and in “Before” she does exactly that. With “Pain” she literally sings her pain away. In “Why” she asks the questions we all ask ourselves. After these very thoughtful songs we need a little break that “Boomerang” provides. It is a super catchy rocky song and I can already imagine Anastacia singing it on stage. We end the record on high with “Higher Livin'” which reminds me a lot of “I’m Outta Love” but cares?! I love both songs and they are brilliant to have a party with šŸ™‚

IMAG3721
Anastacia always takes time to talk to her fans

“Evolution” proves that Anastacia is one of the biggest female singers! She can do it all – the soulful ballade, the party song, the rock song and the meaningful anthems. She created her special genre for a reason. She is just the best at “Sprocking” and this album is arranged beautifully. So do make sure to have a listen and if she comes to a town near you – GO! You won’t regret it.

New Music: So much love for The Scripts Freedom Child

ā€žFreedom Childā€œ by The Script is my most anticipated record of the year next to P!nkā€™s ā€žBeautiful Traumaā€. Two years ago they stopped touring and I didnā€™t know what to do with myself… just kidding! šŸ™‚ They obviously deserved a break which was well needed but then at the beginning of this year the boys started to work on the new album and holy smokes we all were excited!

ā€žRainā€œ the first single was released in July and I remember listening to it on the train and absolutely loved it. The sound was new but still very Script-like. This single meant to the Script Family that an album and a tour was imminent. A month later theyā€™ve got already the first shows under their belt. A US tour is following and now the European fans are wondering WHEN are they coming to Europe??
Back to the record. Like a child on Christmas Day I waited for the postman to deliver the album and finally at noon he decided to show up! And off it went into the record player šŸ™‚ I have to say I was really surprised how different the sound was. The whole CD contains mostly up-tempo songs and is very dancy! I personally love it! The guys outdone themselves to write a whole new album with a different vibe but still keep the The Script signature.

dav
Excited!!!

First song ā€œNo Man is an Islandā€ is a brilliant up-tempo song which I adore and made me immediately want to listen to the whole album even more. WOW ā€œArms openā€ is an anthem to friendship and so beautiful! I hope my friends that my arms are wide open if they need it. In the next song ā€œRock the Worldā€ we finally hear Mark rap/singing again. I love the beat of ā€œMad Loveā€ and the lyrics are brill and quite funny. So The Script like šŸ™‚ Now after listening on my way home in the car I realised this is my favourite track of the album!
In ā€œDeliveranceā€ Danny has been waiting all his life for the One to deliver him something. Well I can tell him whatever it is I will deliver it to him anytime just call me šŸ˜‰ Back to serious matters. The band has always been political and socially critical but this is the most obvious song so far ā€œDivided States of Americaā€ sounds like a marching song and the fighting spirit is palpable. Iā€™m usually against politics in music but like P!nk in ā€œDear Mr. Presidentā€ they talk about what they want to be changed and they donā€™t just badmouth the President with swearing words.
Surprisingly they even use auto-tune in ā€œWondersā€ but itā€™s a lovely ode to life:

Letā€™s see the 8 World Wonders before weā€™re 6 feet under.
Do everything we always talked about, mark them off the bucket list Go to Rome, stand in awe Climb a mountain in Nepal Land in China, walk the wall We gonna do it all Dance in Rio in the sun Head to Vegas for the fun Do the things we never done

ā€œLove not Loversā€hits the nail on the head! Itā€™s the perfect song for all those unlucky people who are trying to find love but only find lovers. The Script gives us hope that one day our day will come! So letā€™s cross our fingers that they are right. And as soon as you find someone you have a ready-made love song by the guys called ā€œEdenā€!
ā€œMake upā€ is the slowest song on this record and tells of a beautiful story. If you are feeling down this your go to song! It instantly tells you to be proud of yourself and be who you are. Wonderful message thank you for this song. Also the next one ā€œWritten in the Scarsā€ will lift you right up and it might even make you start dancing.
Lastly the title track of the album ā€œFreedom Childā€ rounds off an amazing new The Script album. The ā€œlongā€ wait was well worth it and as I mentioned earlier I cannot wait until they tour Europe. Unfortunately I wasnā€™t able to go to any of the UK/US dates but I saw many pictures, videos and periscopes and let me say it again itā€™s good to have the boys back!
So if you havenā€™t already ordered or downloaded Freedom Child please do so right now! And no Iā€™m not paid to say this I mean it. The lads are wonderful so is their music and this is how you can support them. Also make sure to check their homepage thescriptmusic.com for upcoming tour dates.

Calling the Script Family what do you think of the album and the new songs? Please comment below or on Kekoaskornerā€™s social media accounts facebook, instagram and twitter.

Walking on Cars @ Blue Balls Festival 25.07.17

It is the fourth time (Within a year – I know I’m crazy) that I saw these 5 Irish musicians. I was very much looking forward to this gig since I know how awesome they are. I remember when the gig was announced it was just a little over a month since their last gig in Switzerland and of course I couldn’t wait for the next one šŸ™‚

“Meet the Artists” with Walking on Cars

As I mentioned in my earlier blog post about the Strumbellas gig I was lucky enough to score a ticket to this pre talk show “Meet the Artists”. If you live in Lucerne you really have to check this out. At 6 o’clock they are giving away free tix in front of the KKL. Walking on Cars had also only 15mins but I remember that I was laughing throughout. They revealed that they’ve been working on new music and that they will go to a new house again to write their 2nd album. Sorcha said:

People say that you have 6 years to write your first album and only 6 months for your 2nd!

The host also asked what they usually do on a day off and that made me laugh. I know Irish so I knew what they would say and so Paul said go to the pub. šŸ™‚ and yes in Ireland there are still pubs with sticky floors and pool tables. When it rains all the time what else can you do? There are not only pubs in Ireland but also a dolphin called Fungie close to their hometown Dingle. Finally, they gave away what they were eating every day for 6 months in their cottage where they wrote Everything this Way: Spaghetti Carbonara cooked by Evan.

At 10 Walking on Cars hit the stage. Sorcha came on with a long glitter kimono and she looked like a disco ball but in a good way. She looked beautiful yesterday and dressed for the stage not like the lads in their normal clothes šŸ˜‰ Unfortunately they were struggling with technical problems throughout the gig. First we couldn’t hear Paul’s bass and then Pat’s mic stopped working.
Nevertheless I can tell you that the gig was awesome! Their energy is just incredible. It is felt much more in a smaller venue but even yesterday with a wide gap between the front row and the stage the audience was captured. I expected it to last only an hour as usual but it turned out that they had new songs to present!

Pat alone on stage

With the first song “Ship goes Down” and the intense rhythm they had us going. My favourite song “Love backs Down” was already the 5th song and I enjoyed every minute of MY song šŸ™‚ 3 songs later we heard the first new song: “Coldest Water” and let me tell it is beautiful and you can easily sing a long to which I already did. It has the potential to be my 2nd favourite song. Way too fast they left the stage before the encore and what an encore it was!
5 songs, two new ones and one cover. Walking on Cars started with “Scared to be lonely” by Martin Garrix and Dua Lipa in a wonderful own version and it fit perfectly into their set. The two new songs “Find my Love” and “One Last Dance” followed which made really excited to listen to their 2nd album released early next year. They still have their “Walking on Cars sound” but added new different twists which makes each song unique in their own way.

Rocking out

I started to get nervous because my last train was due 11.35 and it was 11.20ish. But I couldn’t leave the concert early first of all I would never do that and 2nd of all I was front row.. How would I be able to do that? With a t-shirt, a jumper and my jacket on I felt like I was in a sauna but still enjoyed “Catch me if you Can” and their so far biggest hit “Speeding Cars”. I knew I couldn’t stay to get the set list so I had to catch a pick or a drum stick and when Evan stepped forward to bow I signalled him please throw me one of your drum sticks and he did! šŸ™‚ I am super happy about this! Now Glen’s (The Script) drum stick has finally another Irish companion.
This is were my luck ended that night. I caught the 11.35 but even at this time of night it was delayed so I missed my connection. So I had to walk to my car and thanks to the bloody rain I slipped and now I am wrecked. But oh well it will take a lot more to stop me from going to concerts.
I want to hear your opinion! Have you seen a Walking on Cars gig and want to share your memories then let me know in the comments below.
