Savage Night Part 2 with Declan Greene, Saarloos and Gavin James

Last year in June at Amboss Rampe I got to see Declan Greene, Saarloos and Gavin James. Fast forward 8 months and Gavin James is back at Dynamo selling out an even bigger venue after playing at Energy Air and getting some major airplay time. What changed? He’s brought a whole band with him on stage.

Declan Greene is Gavin James’ first support act and what a start it was. Standing alone on stage without any music he sings a very powerful song. What a voice. He then grabs his guitar and we got to experience half a comedy show and half a very brill musical performance. Declan Greene also covered Lady Gaga’s and Bradley Coopers “Shallow” midway through his set and many of the people in the crowd sang along. “River” a song dedicated to his fellow mate and part of Saarloos was next. His unfortunately short set ended with “Stay”. The whole crowd helped him out singing along and we experienced already a great atmosphere! Declan Greene really warmed up the crowd.

From last year’s gig I knew I loved the harmonies Craig and Brian create together and I wasn’t disappointed this year. The three lads came on stage and now the stage was big enough for Andy not to be hiding in the back ground ๐Ÿ˜€ “Feisty” being a cool uptempo song which got the crowd going and I think many of us must have seen them before. The lads were overwhelmed by the crowd’s cheers and singalong support! I loved to see their surprised and happy faces when they earned themselves our support. Unfortunately it was time for a sad song although they weren’t feeling too sad right now.


For the next song “Trust in Me” the crowd again was their backing choir singing “Don’t loose faith” while they sang over it. Such a great atmosphere I have to say it again. No-one wanted the set to end but with “Changes” it did. However the song was another highlight from the Saarloos set. If you don’t know them you really should check out their music! They are freaking awesome! ๐Ÿ™‚

Gavin James

At 9 pm it was time for the main act Gavin James to come on stage. I was expecting another one man show which I adored the last time but I got surprised. Gavin James brought a bass player, a drum player and Jeff his piano player along. I wasn’t sure what to make of that and when they started with “Til the sun comes up” I was still processing. “Coming home” and “Faces” followed quickly and I missed Gavin James short stories between songs. If I hadn’t been to his last gig I think I would have loved it! The songs are still great and Gavin James’ voice is still angelic but it kinda felt like it got commercialised.

“Tired”, “Glow” and “Start again” where next. Everyone around me seemed to be singing along and enjoying it while I spent the songs looking around processing. I remembered “The Middle” from last time and I slowly was getting used to this new Gavin James. For “22” it was just him and Jeff at keys playing and I was loving it! But my favourite song of the night and my highlight yesterday was “Nervous”. Gavin James with his guitar and his voice only. Such a beautiful song and I remembered closing my eyes during the last gig and swaying to the tunes.

After this highlight Gavin James was looking to come closer to his audience in the back. He stepped down and parted the crowds like Moses until he was in the middle of the room where he covered a Ray Charles song. Everyone was quiet! In general the people were very quiet tonight which is a stark contrast to last year’s gig. Either the music got louder which it deffo did but the audience got quieter and listened more as well. “Easy” and “Bitter Pill” were next and both songs I liked in the full band version. Am I getting used to the band? ๐Ÿ˜€

Gavin James’ uber hit “Always” was followed. He sat at the piano and performed the very beautiful ballade while the audience filmed it and sang along to it. I love the fact that he chose to sing this song somewhere in the middle of the set. It just proves that he thinks that this is not his biggest songs and all of his songs are equal. The set continued with “Cigarette Break” and “Two hearts”. And finally my absolute favourite song by Gavin James “Hearts on fire” came on. How different this version was with the full band. It still got the crowd going and of course we had to all kneel down in the middle of the song only to jump up for the chorus while confetti rained down on us! I love confetti and I loved that moment. Gavin James quickly left the stage only to come back out of his hiding for the encore. I remember it so vividly back at Amboss Rampe he hid behind the curtain ๐Ÿ˜€ “Book of Love” and “Only ticket home” finished the set. The latter is supposed to be played at 4 am in Dublin Pub because everyone can sing along to no matter how drunk they are. It goes “Hey La La La” ๐Ÿ˜€ and another set of confetti finished the night! ๐Ÿ™‚

Gavin James evolved into an artist with a band. I am still not sure how I feel about this. However I do loved his show including the support acts Declan Greene and Saarloos.

The wait is almost over for Walking on Cars fans!

So this is the last night of the Baloise Session 2018 and it’s “Indie Chartbreakers”-Night! I am super excited to see Walking On Cars for the 5th time! Why? Because they are in the middle of their songwriting process of their 2nd album and yes they are playing new songs!!!! Before they hit the stage LP will warm up the crowd.

I’ve had many chances to see LP live but her style of singing is just not for me. Plus I don’t like if artists whistle all the time. I don’t why but I just don’t think there is any reason why whistling should be put in songs ๐Ÿ™‚ However lots of people disagree with me and came to see LP performing at the Baloise Session and let me tell they weren’t disappointed! I might not like her style of music but I do think she’s super nice. She collected lots of fan presents during the fourth song. She took her time and said hi to everyone. I absolutely loved that.

What I loved too is that she came down to us more than once and walked through the audience. She gave absolutely everything during her 1h 15mins set and I can appreciate that even if I’m not a fan of her music.

Walking on Cars

We were so excited to see them like I already mentioned! So when they started with “Tick Tock” we were totally in the groove and it felt like they’ve never been gone. After “As we fly south” Sorcha had some technical problems with her key board. So Patrick tried himself as an entertainer and cracked a joke. However I don’t think it suits him. The joke was pretty bad and only a few laughed. Maybe it was also because of the language barrier that people didn’t really laugh. Luckily after a few mins he got the go ahead and was able to perform “Ship Goes Down”. His dancing shows a lot of passion and to other people it might look weird but it just shows how passionate he is. LOL

Finally three songs were over and we were able to claim our first row spot ๐Ÿ™‚ “At Gunpoint” and “Love backs down” were next. The latter is one of my fav songs! The energy, the rhythm.. just everyone makes it so special to hear it live. I also loved that the we had enough space to dance. There were lots of people there to support Walking on Cars but respectful ones. Everyone seemed to have a good time and I saw lots of smiles around.

“Flying High” is another incredible song and if you listen closely you can hear the beautiful voice of Sorcha in the background. Lots of “Uhhh’s” and “Hallelujah’s” were sung during “Two Stones” I got goosebumps. The energy was just incredible and that’s the trademark of any Walking on Cars show. Now this next song “Coldest Water” isn’t on their debut record called “Everything this Way” but it’s already on of the fans favourites since they were playing it on their last leg of the tour last year. It’s amazing if you can test new songs live in front of a crowd of people. That’s why I loved watching their reactions and I tried my best making them feel like they did a good job. But before we heard really new song we enjoyed “Always be with u”.

New Songs!

Patrick said that the album is 90% done! So this is good news Walking on Cars fans! 90% is good! I assume we will hear more next year and that’s great! ๐Ÿ™‚ “Waiting on the Corner”, “At my door”, “Nothing’s impossible” are the new songs we have been dying to hear. On my instagram account you can listen to some in the highlights section. I have to say they are awesome and fit perfectly into the set and their first album. They are powerful, rhythmic and just incredible – so Walking on Cars ๐Ÿ™‚ Guys if you read this, keep up the good work and finish that album! ๐Ÿ˜€

The last songs of this year’s Baloise Session

“Catch me if you can” and “Hand in Hand” were performed by Patrick, Sorcha, Paul, Evan and Ross. Yes, Ross who played the guitar instead of Dan. I can only assume that Dan wasn’t able to travel here so they had to find someone to help them out. It worked out well. He did a good job and fit right in however I did miss Dan LOL I guess it was just me ๐Ÿ˜‰ Off they went for the little encore break.
A piano was brought on stage and Pat played “Coming my way” which is another song we heard before but isn’t on an album yet. Such a beautiful ballade! So moving and I was sooo happy that everyone shut up – we could literally listen to the piano and Pat’s voice and sink into the song – so much that when it finished we needed a sec to gather our thoughts and a huge applause followed. “Don’t mind me” was next but lots of people were waiting for “Speeding Cars”. This song finished the 2018 Baloise Session with the whole audience singing “Heya Heya” ๐Ÿ™‚ A very beautiful special moment.

Savage Irish Night at Amboss Rampe

I saw Gavin James at the Kaufleuten Zermatt Unplugged two years ago. Unfortunately I had to leave his set after 30 mins to see Aloe Blacc because the timing back then was really bad. However what I saw of the set I enjoyed very much so that made me go to his 2nd gig at the sold out Amboss Rampe.
The Irish Night was opened by Declan Greene who is your typical Irish guy – or at least that’s how I see it. He’s super funny and a very talented singer songwriter. Playing the guitar and singing nice songs and cracking jokes in-between and warming the crowd up. That’s what I call a good opener!

A truly magical place: Caribana Festival with The Script

Early Saturday morning it was time to go on my last stop of my The Script tour. I was already tired but so excited to meet my girls of The Script family and to see our lads later that day. In addition to that I was looking forward to seeing the Caribana Festival for the first time.


Arriving waay to early at the venue turned out to be a brilliant idea. Because it was so warm we decided to have an ice cream and to go to the lake to put our feet in. This turned out to be a brilliant decision since we saw the lads boating. On our way back to the entrance of the festival we spotted Glen and Ben at the restaurant chillin so we made the decision to quickly wish them a nice show. Them being them they started speaking with us when Mark joined in. It was quite special to just have time to properly speak to these lovely Irish guys. They are so close to their The Script Family and I am sooo happy to be part of this. It is not just the lads that make it special it is the family members you meet. You wouldn’t believe how many good friends I’ve gained through this family ๐Ÿ™‚

Can you feel Dermot Kennedy's struggle?

Thanks to Loads of Music I got a last minute invite to the sold out Dermot Kennedy show at Papiersaal last night. I was pretty excited since this Irish lad got hyped the last few months. I wanted to see for myself if this hype and my Artist2watch is justified or not.
Dermot Kennedy chose Sam Fender as his supporting act. I am sure you’ll be hearing more of this British talent from Newcastle. He was named onto the BBC Sound of 18 list and yesterday we got to see more of this young artist. His 7 song set started with “All is on my side” and “Living without”. My favourite song was “Millennial”. It was very powerful. He mentioned that normally he’s playing with a band but today he was alone on stage with 2 guitars and a keyboard.

After some more jokes he continued with “Greasy Spoon”, “Start again” and “Hold out”. He finished the set on the keyboard and sang a powerful ballade called “Use”. I like the set and I am sure that we’ll be hearing more of him soon.
Dermot Kennedy
Dermot Kennedy came on stage shortly after 9. He seemed like he was either sick or drunk. He wore trainers, a hoodie and a hat it seemed like he was ready for bed. Dermot Kennedy started his set with “Evening” and his incredible voice resonated through the venue. You could hear a pin drop and no-one was chatting. It really was a special atmosphere. He continued with “A Closeness” and “All my friends”. All of his songs are slow ones and his voice is full of struggle and pain. The stories he tells with his songs are powerful and full of emotions.
After each song he said a quiet thank you and if we were lucky he murmured a short explanation into the mic how the song came about. I was actually asking myself how people understand him who don’t know English that well. He didn’t make us feel welcomed even though he is still a new artist. Tom Grennan has got some pretty deep sh*t as well but he has been a joy to watch. He looked at the audience spoke with us and owned the stage. I am honestly not sure if Dermot Kennedy is arrogant, shy or just doesn’t give a damn anymore.

My highlight of the set was “Young & Free”. This will be his next single. I loved it and enjoyed this song a lot. I was fascinated by the drummer Micheal who was super passionate and did an amazing job! Dermot Kennedy said that everyone has a place or a person to go to where you feel safe. So for him it’s a little island off the west coast of Ireland and this is what the next song “For Island Fires and Family” is about. I spent the whole song listening to his every word. A very beautiful ballade and my depressing mood skyrocketed. Like I already mentioned in my Artist2watch post Taylor Swift put “Boston” on her Spotify playlist and we got to listen to it live now.
Apparently it was the best time in Dermot Kennedy’s life busking on the streets of Boston. On the Setlist it says “Malay” but it doesn’t have a name yet. It’s a new song and a work in progress. The song everyone knew came on “Moments Passed” and a little more than just the super fans started singing a long. “Glory” and “After Rain” finished the set without an encore. After 50 mins Dermot Kennedy has done his job for the day. He left a sold out venue wanting more and clapping and wooping for minutes hanging. People couldn’t believe that it was finished already and hung back. Only after a few minutes of disbelief people started queuing up to reclaim their jacket.

I felt his struggle. But was it also a struggle to be on stage for him? I was left wondering and a bit disappointed to be honest. I get the hype around his voice but I don’t think he deserves a hype around his person. If he really was sick he could have told us. I think everyone would have understood. But his performance yesterday doesn’t make me want to see him again which is a shame really.

Artist2watch: Dermot Kennedy

Kekoas Korner has been on a winter break for a while but now I’ve got a real treat for you guys. Dermot Kennedy is an Irish singer songwriter who is coming to Papiersaal in Zurich on Jan, 31st. The show is already sold out so congrats to the lucky ones who scored some tix. If you didn’t Just Because are giving 2×2 tix on their website.
Dermot Kennedy has been busking on the streets of Dublin for years. Glen Hansard another Irish singer songwriter organises the annual Christmas Eve Busking Event. Musicians can take their guitar and play along big names such as Bono from U2, The Coronas or The Script. It’s gotten bigger and bigger over the years but this is how Dermot Kennedy met Glen Hansard – his idol and inspiration – for the first time. Years later Glen invited Dermot to join him on stage and in this video you can see the result:

 
Last year he went on tour in America and Europe where the shows were mostly sold out. He also supported Glen Hansard and Lana del Rey on their tours but not only that Taylor Swift recommended him on her Spotify playlist available to her fans. So he’s already gotten big names to support him. All of this sounds really promising, doesn’t it?
Kekoas Korner agrees with them. Dermot Kennedy has a beautiful unique voice with just a little rasp. If you hear him on the radio you gonna know it’s him. In addition to his voice he has beautiful songs with meaningful lyrics. His newest single is called “Moments Passed” and premiered on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show which has to be a huge honour. But have a listen for yourself:

I personally love it. It reminds me a bit of Jacob Banks and Tom Grennan. I cannot wait to see him live and get to know a little of his personality. Since Dermot Kennedy is Irish I bet he is quite funny and good craic. That little green island has so much talent! Under grey skies is a lot of good music

On Tuesday I got to see two brilliant artists: JP Cooper and Supporting him on his European tour the Irish band Picture This. Back home they are very well known but over here they are Newcomers.
I already started to feel sick when I went out so it was no wonder that by the time JP was one stage I had no voice at all. But first things first. I arrived at Papiersaal and this time it was mandatory to leave your jacket at the wardrobe. Me being sick and feeling cold I still had to give them my jacket. Plus pay 2 francs! So I was super furious but this feeling got stronger when I saw loads of people with jackets inside. Apparently they only started these shenanigans a bit later so the first to arrive were allowed in with jackets. This guaranteed chaos after the concert. I normally don’t add these kinds of things into my review because these things have nothing to do with the artist but is seriously taking the piss and I don’t understand it at all.

At 8 Picture This took the stage and I had kind of a deja vu. A few weeks ago I saw the Irish lads of the Coronas right on this stage and Ryan sounded a bit like Danny. However Picture This do have their own sound and I really really liked it. I also loved how Ryan spoke with us and told us some stories to the songs. For example the song “Jane” was written for a specific girl but he didn’t want to make her feel that special in naming the song after her so he just picked a random name. They started their set with “Let’s be young”, “Everything I need” and “Dream” – A beautiful ballade. Just before “Jane” we enjoyed “Addicted to you”… Well we is a bit much. There were loads of people chit chatting about their day. I seriously don’t understand how you can be so disrespectful to an artist.

The last three songs “Never Change”, “You & I” and “Take my hand” were over way to fast and the lads left the stage after some more stories. I mean they really had to go since Ireland was playing the World Cup qualification game and they had to cheer for them ๐Ÿ˜‰ In case you wonder Ireland unfortunately lost against Denmark and is not going to the World Cup next year.

And I deffo lost my voice by 9pm while JP Cooper stepped on stage with his first song “Under grey skies” which is the title track of his debut record. Me trying to “woohoo” after the song to show my appreciated failed royally. So I enjoyed the concert quietly. The 2nd song “She’s on my mind” is a brilliant track to dance to and I was very glad I came. Next we heard “Change” and “Birthday”. After which someone shouted “happy belated Birthday JP!” and the whole crowd started to sing Happy Birthday. He was very touched and said I think this will be a good night.

It took him quite a long time to be successful with his music. Before his first record “Under Grey Skies” he released a few EP’s of which he will sing the next song called “Satellite”. A beautifully slow song with which he could show off his wonderful voice was this ballade called “Streetlights and the moon”. “Closer” he wrote for his son since he hopes that one day his son will understand why Daddy’s gone quite a few times during the year – A very touching moment. With “September Song” he sang the song literally everyone knew and loved. This song gave him his breakthrough and I am sure will be only the start of a great career.

“Wait” and “Shivers” were next. He then apologised to the people who came here and thought he was a dance artist since he collaborated with Jonas Blue to sing one of my last year’s summer hits “Perfect Strangers”. For the last song before the Encore he told us the story about him loosing his passport while he was in the process of writing his new album. So he thought I have to write a song about this and here it was “Passport Home”. After a quick break he came back on to cover a John Lennon song. However I know “Jealous Guy” by Gavin DeGraw and I did see some similarities. Both guys sang it beautifully and I had goose-bumps. Thank you JP for singing this beautiful song.

After 90 minutes JP said Goodbye with “Good Friend” and I really do hope that he is coming back soon and I can enjoy the concert without being feverish and including my voice. Of course the jacket chaos started and we decided to stay close to the backstage door since we were told that he’s coming out to meet fans. He did quite quickly after the show and I unfortunately couldn’t tell him at all how I loved his gig since I couldn’t utter a word. He understood anyway.. What a lovely guy and amazing musician so it is well worth supporting him.

The Coronas – one of Ireland's finest

I’ve met the Coronas a few times after the show but never officially for an interview. So I kinda knew what to expect and I was super excited for them to answer my questions. When I arrived they were still sound-checking. To me it sounded great already and they proved it later. Read more about the gig here.
Right after I met Danny backstage for the interview. Dave seemed famished so I let him off the hook and talked with Danny who promised to know Dave’s answers too! ๐Ÿ™‚ So let’s see about that:
Youโ€™ve been around for quite some time and played a lot of venues. So what would be your favourite or most special venue youโ€™ve played in or want to play in?
Danny: If I could pick anywhere I would love to play in Madison Square Garden in New York because that’s like an historic andย huge venue. I went to a Basketball game there when I was really young and it’s just amazing. It’s in the centre of New York but I don’t know why it always stood out to me. That would be cool to get to that stage.
But we’ve been very lucky to play in some amazing venues. In London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire which is a great venue. At home the 3E Arena which is unreal. Just this summer we had this big outdoor gig in Kilmainham which was amazing as well. Our favourite place is a small theatre in Dublin and the Marquee in Cork. West Cork is lovely we always have great shows down there there. We’re lucky that we always have great gigs. But we love travelling and playing small venues like these too. Sometimes a big venue doesn’t necessarily mean a good gig. We’ve had some shows on this tour that we’ve all been buzzin’ after even though they were only 100/200 people at the gig and we have to say to each other that was amazing. The night we played in Hamburg and Freiburg the night after and we’ve never played there before and it was a big venue and we didn’t know if people would be there. It was a really good crowd, they were brilliant! It’s also refreshing to see on this tour so far in Germany it was all locals coming to see us and hopefully tonight in Switzerland too as opposed to Irish. It always is a bit of both but in Germany there were a lot more locals so I think that’s cool for a change. It’s nice to see us making some ground with the locals. So hopefully it’ll be the same here.ย 
I hope so too. You are really good. I’ve been to a few shows and I don’t know why you haven’t gotten much bigger yet.ย 
We’re lucky that we are big in Ireland. There are so many bands who don’t make it. We’re still trying and making baby steps forward. As long as we get to travel and play our music. That’s all we want.ย 
As a fan I noticed quite a few differences in the fan culture depending on which country you’re in. Do you notice it as well and what are the differences?
In Ireland the crowds are much louder and they are up for a party and they are noisy, dancing and sing along. They go crazy. Whereas here in Europe in general but also in Switzerland they listen. They know their music and they are a bit more laid back. It’s cool I love the different crowds. Every country is different. In Australia they go a bit crazy. The UK is sort of in-between. We played in some crazy places in Asia for example in Japan it was so quiet. You could literally hear a pin drop no matter how many people are there. It’s amazing. They have that respect. So it’s different in every country but we love it all.ย 
You just released a new album called “Trust The Wire”. Who were/are your musical influences?
We are influenced by everything, by music or people influence us: relationships, friendships. Everything influences us. Surroundings too. We wrote this album in Dingle, County Kerry, which is in the Southwest corner of Ireland and it’s beautiful. We locked ourselves away and it was beautiful scenery and very quiet and atmospheric. That made a difference to the album as well.
Musical influences I would say the National are big that we love. Bon Iver, James Vincent McMorrow, Bell X1, Glen Hansard loads of different musical influences personally and I’m sure the guys are different as well.ย 
What would Dave say?
What does Dave like? Ohh I don’t know you’ll have to ask him. No he likes James Vincent McMorrow and those bands as well. That answer works for both of us.
What is your way to connect to fans?
We always make an effort to say hello to people who come see us in these venues. It’s nice to be able to do that because at the big shows back home it’s too big to go out and meet people and get that reaction off people. It’s nice to know what they liked about the show or if they’ve seen us before. We like that. We’re quite active but we are trying to be even more active on social media. It’s a great way to stay in contact with people in Twitter and Instagram etc. It’s so important these days and makes a difference. Especially now that we are on tour. It’s nice to put up shots of the tour so people at home can see what we are doing and when we are at home people here can see. It’s a way to keep in contact.ย

I have to ask since I am a huge The Script Fan too. How did the cooperation between you two start?
We’ve met them on a TV show long long time ago in Ireland. They were about to release “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” and we just released “Heroes or Ghosts”. We sang both our songs and we met and got along really well. So the guys just said “Do you want to come on tour with us?” And we were like yeah that would be amazing. So we went on tour in Ireland and all around Europe and it was so much fun! I’m saying to Glen you have to get us back again.
Oh yes, I support that!
And he keeps saying yeah we’ll do it sometime. Great guys, great band and so much fun. We learned a lot from them.ย 
You are visiting Switzerland quite often โ€“ lucky for me โ€“ what do you like most about Switzerland?
Yes, we’ve been here a few times. It’s beautiful but unfortunately we haven’t had that much time off. Every time we’re here we are doing promo and the gig – just in and out. So lots of stuff going on. The lake and the scenery is beautiful. There’s some green and some water. It reminds me of Ireland in many ways. The people as well. Friendly people. We love it here. Every time we come we’ve gotten a great response. It’s cool to see different cities. The people here are maybe a bit warmer, friendlier or outgoing than in Germany but I suppose every city is different.ย 
Now last question is actually about your country. I will be visiting Ireland next year for The Script gig in Dublin. What’s your favourite place or what would you recommend to do?
If you’re going to Dublin for the show I’d say if you go down to Dun Laoghaire, which is on the south side coast of Dublin and maybe 20 minutes from the city centre by bus, with a lovely pier and beach area. It’s really nice with little ice cream places and cool coffee shops and nice vibe. I love Dublin city maybe just walk around there if it’s nice weather – fingers crossed. When are you going?

It’ll probably be terrible and freezing! The Storehouse is good, some good pubs in Temple Bar. Do the touristy things, they’re fun! Hope you enjoy it! I might go to that show myself if I’m around.

The Coronas are always good craic

Mainland Music brought the 4 lovely lads from the Coronas back to Zurich! It’s been years since I got to know them as the support of the Script. I immediately fell in love with their music and been a fan of theirs ever since. The thing is they are not just brilliant musicians but also very nice down-to-earth people.

Polar Circles

This time Polar Circles a Swiss band from Lausanne got to be their opening act on the whole European tour. I really enjoyed one of their last songs a lot and they seemed like really nice people. I especially loved the red guitar <3
Just a little after 9 The Coronas took the stage at Papiersaal with their new single “Real Feel” off their latest album “Trust The Wire”. “Get Loose” and “Addicted to Progress” were the next two songs they chose to play. The lads went on with a mix of new and old songs. Their songs just get you immediately and within minutes everyone was rocking out. From time to time I was looking at people and they were smiling back! I absolutely loved the atmosphere. Everybody had a good time or how the Irish would say good craic.

For “A Bit Withdrawn” Danny made us close our eyes to fully enjoy the song and it was well worth it. What a beautiful song – especially when you listen to it closely! “Who We Are” woke us back up and was full of energy! In “Dreaming Again” you can hear the Irish influence. It makes you sway from side to side and you can almost feel that you are in a proper Irish pub. From the new album this song “We Couldn’t Fake It” is one of the best in my opinion. “Gut Feeling” was next and it’s time to praise Danny incredibly special voice. The Irish accent and the voice itself is a mix that you just have to love.


My personal highlight of the show was when Danny stepped off stage and into the crowd to sing “Heroes or Ghosts” with us as back ground vocals. ๐Ÿ™‚ This song is very old but still one of my favourites. Before the show I was able to meet him for an interview which you can read on my blog too. I took the chance to ask him if he could sing this song in Gaelic. So the 2nd verse of “Heroes or Ghosts” he sang in Gaelic. It was amazing!

Before the title track of their last album “Closer To You” they played “Someone Elses’s Hands” a beautiful rock ballade. In “What A Love” we could prove our singing abilities again before Danny toned it down again for “Give Me A Minute”. Sitting at his keys we enjoyed this wonderful slow song. The last song before the encore was “Mark My Words” which Danny announced like this:

So we tell you that this is the last song before we go off stage and then you hopefully clap as loud as you can and then we come back to play more songs. I’m actually not suppose to tell you this! This is not how it works.

This gave everyone a good laugh and it just shows how incredibly funny and normal they are. As announced they left the stage and we started to shout “One more song, one more song”. They came back on and he said well actually we’ll play four more songs! ๐Ÿ™‚ “Look at all the lovers” was the first encore song before they covered “Learning To Fly” to honour the late great Tom Petty. Another of my favourites called “San Diego Song” was next. This song is brilliant but just too short! One last song “Just Like That” and this 90 minutes set was over.

New Music: So much love for The Scripts Freedom Child

โ€žFreedom Childโ€œ by The Script is my most anticipated record of the year next to P!nkโ€™s โ€žBeautiful Traumaโ€. Two years ago they stopped touring and I didnโ€™t know what to do with myself… just kidding! ๐Ÿ™‚ They obviously deserved a break which was well needed but then at the beginning of this year the boys started to work on the new album and holy smokes we all were excited!

โ€žRainโ€œ the first single was released in July and I remember listening to it on the train and absolutely loved it. The sound was new but still very Script-like. This single meant to the Script Family that an album and a tour was imminent. A month later theyโ€™ve got already the first shows under their belt. A US tour is following and now the European fans are wondering WHEN are they coming to Europe??
Back to the record. Like a child on Christmas Day I waited for the postman to deliver the album and finally at noon he decided to show up! And off it went into the record player ๐Ÿ™‚ I have to say I was really surprised how different the sound was. The whole CD contains mostly up-tempo songs and is very dancy! I personally love it! The guys outdone themselves to write a whole new album with a different vibe but still keep the The Script signature.

First song โ€œNo Man is an Islandโ€ is a brilliant up-tempo song which I adore and made me immediately want to listen to the whole album even more. WOW โ€œArms openโ€ is an anthem to friendship and so beautiful! I hope my friends that my arms are wide open if they need it. In the next song โ€œRock the Worldโ€ we finally hear Mark rap/singing again. I love the beat of โ€œMad Loveโ€ and the lyrics are brill and quite funny. So The Script like ๐Ÿ™‚ Now after listening on my way home in the car I realised this is my favourite track of the album!
In โ€œDeliveranceโ€ Danny has been waiting all his life for the One to deliver him something. Well I can tell him whatever it is I will deliver it to him anytime just call me ๐Ÿ˜‰ Back to serious matters. The band has always been political and socially critical but this is the most obvious song so far โ€œDivided States of Americaโ€ sounds like a marching song and the fighting spirit is palpable. Iโ€™m usually against politics in music but like P!nk in โ€œDear Mr. Presidentโ€ they talk about what they want to be changed and they donโ€™t just badmouth the President with swearing words.
Surprisingly they even use auto-tune in โ€œWondersโ€ but itโ€™s a lovely ode to life:

โ€œLove not Loversโ€hits the nail on the head! Itโ€™s the perfect song for all those unlucky people who are trying to find love but only find lovers. The Script gives us hope that one day our day will come! So letโ€™s cross our fingers that they are right. And as soon as you find someone you have a ready-made love song by the guys called โ€œEdenโ€!
โ€œMake upโ€ is the slowest song on this record and tells of a beautiful story. If you are feeling down this your go to song! It instantly tells you to be proud of yourself and be who you are. Wonderful message thank you for this song. Also the next one โ€œWritten in the Scarsโ€ will lift you right up and it might even make you start dancing.
Lastly the title track of the album โ€œFreedom Childโ€ rounds off an amazing new The Script album. The โ€œlongโ€ wait was well worth it and as I mentioned earlier I cannot wait until they tour Europe. Unfortunately I wasnโ€™t able to go to any of the UK/US dates but I saw many pictures, videos and periscopes and let me say it again itโ€™s good to have the boys back!
